Prize giving for the winner of the day
Both Philippe Gleizon and David Jarmany got 2 points, which was honorable considering the strength of open section. Philippe Gleizon was unfortunate to be paired for the first two rounds against Jaroslav Vrubl and Robert Patla, who were the strongest constestants in this tournament. However his losses were not undeserving. Participants even saw Philippe's clearly won position against Robert Patla until he started to rush his moves under time pressure and inevitably blundered. It is a great credit to Robert that no one in Cumbria can play better than him under time pressure.
However, Cockermouth players were more successful in the other leagues, since they all finished at the top of their respective leagues:
- Ian Stone and Neil Jones finished first ex-aequo (with Tim Wrigley) of the u150 section with 4 points, while Bill Henderson finished in fourth place with 3.5 points, having only lost to his club mate Ian Stone!
- However the performance of the day belonged to Peter Blackmore who won his section with the undisputed score of 5/5! Well done Peter for your first won tournament! This highlights your fast improvement in chess.
This year, three players arrived in first place: Jaroslav Vrubl, Robert Patla and Malcolm Armstrong with 4 points. The overall winner, based on tie break count, was Jaroslav Vrubl. Congratulations!
