Cockermouth Chess Club
Links
FIDE (Federation Internationale des Echecs) - A comprehensive site worthy of the World Chess Federation. At last Viswanathan Anand is number one. A well deserved position for such a talented player, after being so long in the top 5...
ECF (English Chess Federation) - Lots of information about chess in the UK, including various events, and the official on-line grading list with a specific search engine per clubs or players.
NCCU (North Counties Chess Union) - Check it, you may find your name in it. Details of the NMS (Northern Membership Scheme) are provided in the site.
CCA (Cumbria Chess Association) - The good reference web site that gives all details and results of chess matches and events in Cumbria.
EE - Europe Echecs is the french monthly magazine of chess. Very interesting, well illustrated, enjoyable to read, full of informations, problems, etc. They don't seem to have an english version but have links to english chess magazines such as ChessAnyTime... Never mind, the chess board drawings are universally understood. They also host an interactive chess site for on-line games (NB: its loading is slow).

Other clubs in Cumbria:
Products:
Chess Direct - Located in Mexborough (South Yorkshire). They have a huge catalogue of chess products. Maybe one of the best retailers in the UK for this activity.
ChessCenter - Here is a comprehensive site on chess! Even too much, you may spend hours browsing it and sometimes get lost in it... The TWIC (The Week In Chess) pages are more dedicated to chess. The site is a mine for chess products but also provides information on chess events and else.
On-line games:
ICC - The Internet Chess Club is undoubtedly the best on-line chess site. Their software is very well designed and practical, they offer all range of activities: individual games, tournaments, trainings and lessons, news, on-live tournaments broadcast, discussions. All for a subscription of $49 per year, but believe me it is worth it!
FICS (Free Internet Chess Server) - A good alternative site if you want to play on-line without paying any subscription. However don't expect the same range of activities nor the same quality of software than on the ICC.
Caissa - No software to download on this site. I have only visited it once and therefore wouldn't be able to tell much about it. Sorry..
ChessCube - The English Chess Federation has now an official site for chess online, in collaboration with South African ChessCube company. It is free, with a nice interface and no download. Registration required though.
Worth to look at, although there is not yet the same level of activities as the Internet Chess Club.
